Two Nights in Cairo on the Way Somewhere Else

I keep circling Cairo for a winter trip. Bucket list. Mild January. Pyramids that have been sitting in my head for years.

Someone posted about parking two nights in Cairo on the way somewhere else — land, see the Pyramids, fly on. That stuck. Not because I want to sprint through Egypt. Because I like the opposite of a sprint.

I travel slow. Two nights is not “do Egypt.” Two nights is a calm stop with one real job: stand in front of the Giza Plateau without turning the whole trip into a museum marathon.

If I only had that window, I would keep it boring on purpose.

Stay close to the Pyramids, not downtown “for the vibe.” Traffic in Cairo eats half-days. I would rather walk or take a short ride to the plateau than fight the city twice a day. Morning at Giza. Sphinx. Leave room to breathe. If energy is left, the Grand Egyptian Museum is right there — not another cross-town gamble.

I would not stack Saqqara, Islamic Cairo, and the bazaar into the same 48 hours. That is how a stopover becomes a blur. Save the rest for a longer visit someday.

That is the whole idea. A short stop with one clear job, not a checklist that pretends two nights can cover a country.

Practical bits that matter more than a fancy plan: book the Pyramids early. Expect heat even in winter midday. Carry water. Use a licensed guide or a driver you trust if the plateau feels chaotic — it often does.

Two nights will not make me an Egypt expert. That is fine. I just want the Pyramids without treating them like an Instagram pit stop between gates.

Stay tuned… if I actually do those Cairo nights, I will say how they felt.
