This afternoon I saw the movie Source Code at AMC Cinemas, Pacific Place, Admiralty, Hong Kong. One of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

It stars Jake Gyllenhaal (as Captain Colter Stevens) and Michelle Monaghan (as Christina). Without giving away the plot, it is about a military pilot (Captain Stevens) who wakes up inside someone else's body and had to figure out what happened.

The movie decides not to spend the time to explain the backgrounds or develop the characters, but instead chose to jump right into the story, like the main character's predicament. This is brave of the play writes to do so, you will understand why after you watch the movie. This decision cause the movie to be a bit disorienting for the audiences.

This method would otherwise work well with a different cast of actors, but this cast left us non-engaged and at moments bored. During the first several cycles (do not want to get into this, in fear of revealing too much of the plot) Captain Stevens tried to both figure out the status of his own life and to follow orders to investigate the events that transpired.

Through out the movie the characters insist that they are not achieving time travel but in the end the audiences realize the characters have actually achieved travels among parallel realities.

This movie reminds me of Groundhog Day by Bill Murray, but it is not a comedy so it is not as entertaining.

I gave this movie 3 penguins and will only recommend it if there are no other choices at the cinemas.

This evening I saw the movie premier of Overheard《竊聽風雲》 at Grand Cinema, Elements, West Kowloon, Hong Kong. Not one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

It stars 劉青雲 (Lau Ching-wan), 古天樂 (Louis Koo), 吳彥祖 (Daniel Wu) and 王敏德 (Michael F. Wong), with the former being one of my favorite actors, which I've watched almost every one of his movies.

The plot of the movie is smiple. It is about a unit of the CIB unit of the Hong Kong Police being assigned to keep surveillance on a company that the government is investigating. The movie did not spend enough time building the characters and background. There were moments of mission-impossible-esq scenes to create suspense but did not really carry through the movie. The several twists in the plot were too predictable and did not give the audience the feeling of originality.

It has been a while since Micahael Wong stared in a large production Hong Kong movie. In the past Wong always played the foreign police officer arriving in Hong Kong to advise the police force on special operations. To my surprise, in this movie Wong played the lead villain, and was very convincing making me hate his character throughout the movie.

Over all I find Lau Ching-wan, Daniel Wu and Michael Wong to have the best performances among all the actors in the movie. Daniel Wu performance was mediocre and definitely not as good as the 2007, Protégé that he appeared in.

Not one of the Hong Kong movies to make it to big screens in Hollywood.

This evening I saw the movie Murderer at AMC Theater, Pacific Place, Hong Kong. Another one of the movies from my Must See Movies list. After seeing the movie in person I had to remove it from my Must See Movies list.

Yes, it was that bad. If it was not for Aaron Kwok the movie would have easily become one of Hong Kong's many B-movies. Fans of Kwok will be angry with me, but I felt that every scene Kwok was in he was trying to imitate Jack Nicholson and Johnny Depp. I guess in a way it was necessary due to the mental state of the character, Inspector Ling, he was playing. In comparison the supporting actors in the movie was worst, especially Josie Ho

I believe the director, Hsien-yang Chou, has much to do with the down fall of this movie and not to mention the writing duo Chi-long To and Roy Chow Hin Yeung. They are all new to the movie industry expect for To. Not only is the dialogue and directions are bad, the special effects are also very unbelievable.

Unless you're a fan of Kwok I suggest you give this a miss.

This afternoon I saw the movie Knowing at AMC Theater, Pacific Place, Admiralty, Hong Kong. Another one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

After watching the poor performance of Dwayne Johnson in Race to Witch Mountain last week, I was glad to watch a seasoned actor, Nicolas Cage, delivering a great performance. Although Cage's performance is only great when compared to Johnson, here Cage was playing his "Ben Gates" character from National Treasure.

The thing that earned this movie an extra penguin in my rating was the story and the twists in the plot. It did not have as complicated of a plot as National Treasure, but contains enough suspense for the audience to want more. Without breaking my rule of no spoilers, there is really not much more I can say about the movie.

I can leave you with the following detail, as with I Am Legend the ending of this movie is a bit unexpected.

This evening I saw the movie Eagle Eye at AMC Theater, Pacific Place, Admiralty, Hong Kong.

Another highly anticipated movie from my Must See Movies list.

Another great movie with exciting special effects and spectacular stunts. The kind you expects from Die Hard franchise and more recently in Wanted. These recent movies has really raise the bar for all action movies to come.

The casting was almost perfect except for Michael Chiklis, which I just cannot rid him of his character, "Detective Vic Mackey" from The Shield. It is most likely the choice of the director, D.J. Caruso, who chose Chiklis for the Defense Secretary role.

The plot of this movie is not totally original, with The Terminator and WarGames both using the same theme. To avoid ruin the movie for my readers I will not review too much of the plot, which is reviewed half way into the movie.

Overall the dialogue is fairly weak particularly Chiklis' character. The only memorable one was from Billy Bob Thornton where he turns to his team and say, "I hope you are all staring at me because I am the major suspect, if I don't get some significant leads I will demote everyone of you to jobs that require direct contact of feces."

If you enjoy action movies and a technology buff, this is definitely a movie not to miss.

This evening I saw the movie "The Kingdom" at JP Theater, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

Jamie Foxx was his usual self, playing the good guy he had in the past, with just a mediocre performance. The other members of the cast, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman did not help either.

The story of the movie is quite straight forward with a simple lesson in the end. Although, this movie is on my "Must See" list, after seeing it myself, it can now be moved to my "Can Miss" list.

This evening I saw the movie "The Brave One (2007)" at UA Cinema, Time Square, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

What can I say, but yet another great performance by Jodie Foster. I had always like Foster's movies. For some reason she always plays a strong independent female character in her movies.

In this movie, when it first began, Foster's character was made up to not look like the way Foster normally looked. Giving the character a chance to show the audiences how her appearances and character changed as the movie progressed.

Foster's character made me think twice about walking into a dark alley. In normal times dark alleys of any city are usually places one should avoid; especially alone. Here it proved that there's still no reason to go into a dark alley with more than one of you. The best option was still to find another way to your destination.

Simply it was a movie about getting even and revenge, and the consequences of these actions and how such actions will change one.

Although, the plot was quite straight forward and did not have any of the twists and turns I normally liked in a movie. I still gave it a 4 Penguin rating for Foster's performance.

This evening I saw the movie "The Bourne Ultimatum" at UA Cinema, Time Square, Causeway Bay.

This is now the sixth movie in the row that I was very happy to give my 4 Penguins or above rating. Hopefully sign of even better movies to come. Although, the Summer blockbusters are almost ending.

I was a bit skeptical entering the movie, whether this 3rd edition of the franchise can live up to the typical Bourne action and plot twists. I was presently surprised.

One thing I will advise, like all the James Bond movies, you "DO NOT WANT TO BE LATE" for the one. The action begins 2 minutes into the movie and did not stop.

At times there was the typical "flash back" which prevented me from giving this movie the "5 Penguins" rating. Although, I do understand the needs to do so, to offer a sense of closure to the Bourne trilogy. Aside from that it has the car chases and action sequences to keep the audiences at the edge of their seats.

Matt Damon, was obviously older in this movie to the point of overweight, which made some of the actions a bit unbelievable.

They did try to develop a hidden back story between the character Jason Bourne and Nicky Parsons (played by Julia Stiles), but did not carry it to fruition. Is this an attempt to give themselves an option to have a 4th version of the franchise? No one will know until that happens.

If you like action, spy, espionage movie, this is definitely not one to miss.

This evening I saw the movie "Zodiac" at UA Cinema, Time Square, Causeway Bay.

After watching the trailer for this movie I was anticipating a movie of intriguing plot with a difference, but fifteen minutes into the movie I realized my assumption was incorrect. The plot does have the twist and turns of a murder mystery, unfortunately this was only evident on the surface.

Much has to do with Jake Gyllenhaal's acting and his character "Robert Graysmith". Graysmith is very similar to the obsessive nature of the character, "Anthony Swofford" that Gyllenhaal played in the 2005 movie, Jarhead.

I am now batting 3 for 3 in bad movies. Is it time for me to review my criterions before choosing the next movie to watch?
